Women Discrimination
For over forty years now, women in Iran were not allowed to go to soccer games or any male sporting events even after FIFA made it clear for Iranian leaders to abolish the ban . In the past years, only a selected few women were allowed into stadiums to watch men’s sporting events like soccer. On September 2nd, a 29 year old bipolar woman who loved soccer, set herself ablaze after being arrested by the police for trying to go to the stadium disguised as a man. Due to her illness, not having proper medication and the negligence of the police, her psychological problems became worse which led her to take this horrible action that not only scarred people but hurt her family.
Newspapers like the Washington Post, The Guardian and so many, have since written about it and created awareness on the unfair treatment of women in Iran. As most millennials these days do not read or pay attention to the News as much, but like to watch movies/videos, there should movies/videos created to support and bring awareness to some unnecessary rules or laws that restrict women and even men sometimes in Iran. Also, there should be an investigation about the health history of people even if they are offenders of the state or country, so that they can take measures to prevent any catastrophe like what happened to the “blue woman” from reoccurring. We do not need people sacrificing and dying to make a change. We should make a change because it is right and it benefits us all.
